WHAT IS COMPUTATIONAL SCIENCE?

Computational science involves the construction of mathematical models to investigate complex scientific problems. This typically involves using computers through a specific program to process large amounts of data to simulate model problems and better understand the various parameters that influence the problem or situation being studied. Problems which can be studied using computational techniques include climate, materials, pharmaceutical, and financial modelling. Although many of the problems are very applied, a solid scientific basis and understanding of the problem are essential to both model the problem and comprehend the results.

THE PROGRAMME

B.Sc. programme in Computational Science at the School of Science, Walailak University is a four year programme designed to stretch students and allow them to reach their full potential. The programme is the first in Thailand and aims to produce knowledgeable and intelligent graduates with skills applicable to a wide range of professions both in Thailand and the wider ASEAN community. The course is approved by the Development and Promotion of Science Talents Project (DPST), one of the leading scholarship programmes in the country. Students have strong job prospectus with almost all graduates either in work or continuing on to a higher degree within six months of completing their degree.
